Professor of Slavic Studies Masako Fidler has recently been recognized for her outstanding work in Czech studies, and was elected President of the International Association of Teachers of Czech in January 2026. An interview regarding her new position can be found here.
The following month, Professor Fidler was honored with a gold medal from the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague. According to an article announcing the award, the The Faculty of Arts of Charles University Medal is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of the faculty in the areas of science, education, or academic freedom. As described by the organization, Professor Fidler was recognized “for contribution to the development of Czech studies, the teaching of Czech in the USA, and in particular for merits in developing comprehensive cooperation between the Faculty of Arts (and, by extension, the entire Charles university) and Brown University.”
