Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow Felix Kpogo joins Program in Linguistics

The Program in Linguistics is excited to welcome Felix Kpogo, Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Brown University.

Felix Kpogo is joining Brown Linguistics as a Presidential Postdoctoral Research Fellow, having recently earned his PhD at Boston University with a dissertation titled “Investigating Sound Change in Twi Vowel Harmony: A Sociophonetic Study of Age, Gender, and Locality Effects”. Felix’s research focuses on sociophonetics, language variation and change, and language development in bi-/multilingual populations. His work explores the social and cognitive factors influencing phonetic variation in understudied multilingual speech communities, as well as how typically developing children navigate the process of acquiring complex linguistic systems in African languages, and the implications for language development theories. Overall, his research program aims to stimulate theoretical interest in the acquisition and variation of African languages while providing valuable support to speech scientists working in this under-researched area. In Spring 2025, he will be teaching LIN 0810: Postcolonial African Englishes. Please join us in welcoming Felix to our community!
